Head Smut of Corn (Sphacelotheca reiliana)

  • A BIG problem in France
  • Maize cultivars vary significantly in their resistance
  • Primarily soil borne but can be seed borne
  • Overwinters as teliospores (which can survive for several years) and infects growing point of young seedling.
  • Low soil moisture and warm temperatures (22–28⁰C) favour disease development
  • Develops systemically within the plant

Ipconazole provides the highest level of control available, combined with outstanding seed safety

Ipconazole is very effective for control of Head smut of Corn (Sphacelotheca reiliana)

At doses between 7.5 and 12.5 g a.i. per 100 kg of seed, ipconazole is at least equivalent and mostly superior to registered rates of triticonazole, triadimenole and tebuconazole.
