Cernay, France, Sept. 19, 2019 – Local elected officials and Corteva Agriscience representatives today opened a new crop protection packaging plant as part of a multimillion euro investment into products of natural origin.
The €20 million project at the Cernay (Haut-Rhin) plant in France will produce products from the Inatreq™ active range, which have been approved for use in the EU and represent a new class of fungicides for cereals (picolinamides) with the active molecule derived from natural products obtained by fermentation.1
Production on the new 4,000m2 facility, one of the four Corteva Agriscience manufacturing sites in France, will start in October 2019, with around 50 jobs expected to be created over the next four years. Some 380 people, plus temporary staff, are already employed by Corteva Agriscience at the site in the neighboring municipality of Uffholtz.
As well as construction of the new plant, investment in Cernay includes the transformation of the formulation plants. The project sets the stage for a bigger investment project planned in France, as Corteva Agriscience steps up to meet societal demand for products of natural origin and provide farmers with a toolbox of innovative solutions to help them meet ever-changing challenges.
"Inatreq™ active is a game changer that allows growers to enhance their yield while combining application flexibility with excellent crop safety. And thanks to its natural origin, this is what European societies demand from innovation in agriculture," said Susan Lewis, Senior Vice President, Enterprise Operations for Corteva Agriscience.
"This new investment demonstrates Corteva Agriscience's commitment to delivering innovative and sustainable solutions that will transform agriculture and help growers increase productivity and ensure food security for a growing population. This plant reflects Corteva’s tireless efforts to create a sustainable food system that will help farmers produce the healthy, quality food that consumers demand."
Corteva Agriscience innovation pipeline in Europe is stronger than ever, with an expanded portfolio in crop protection, seeds and digital agriculture that support farmers, secure crop management, crop production and help provide quality food for a growing population.
1 Thanks to its unique mode of action targeting a new cell binding site, the Inatreq™ active range offers farmers a new and sustainable way to control cereal diseases such as Septoria tritici. It is the first new class of molecule launched for cereal protection in more than a decade.
