Hort Connections 2026

As reflected by Nick Koch, Corteva Horticultural Marketing Manager

Hort Connections 2026, held in Adelaide from 1–4 June, once again proved to be a standout event, bringing together growers, agronomists and industry leaders for several days of meaningful conversations, fresh ideas and strong industry momentum.

Reflecting on the event, Nick Koch described it as “another key moment on the calendar that continues to deliver—bringing the industry together for genuine connection and shared insights.”

A defining feature of this year’s event was the opportunity to engage directly with growers. “What really stood out was being able to hear firsthand what’s happening on farm and what matters most to growers,” Koch said. “With increasing pressure from pests, disease and the need to improve productivity sustainably, taking the time to listen and truly understand those challenges is more important than ever.”

Beyond the business and technical insights, Koch emphasised the importance of the people behind the industry. “Events like this are just as much about the people,” he noted. “It’s a chance to reconnect with old friends, strengthen relationships and build new ones. The energy across the three days was outstanding, and it’s clear the industry is in good hands with a strong mix of experience and emerging talent.”

Among the standout moments was the Corteva Young Grower of the Year Networking Event, held on Wednesday afternoon at Ballers Clubhouse Adelaide. “It brought together a fantastic group of like-minded farmers and agronomists from across Australia,” Koch said.

A highlight of the afternoon was the crowd-favourite “AFL Premiership” darts competition. “It turned into an absolute thriller,” Koch recalled. “Team Onion from South Australia went up against the Tasmanian ‘Mad Dogs’, and just when it looked like it was all over, there was a dramatic late comeback.”

He pointed to the defining moment of the match: “Jarryd Dolling stepped up under pressure, slotting three goals in the dying moments to seal a remarkable victory. The crowd went wild, and celebrations carried on well into the night.”

Luca Farmer of The Farmer Group accepts the Corteva Young Grower of the Year Award, presented by Nick Koch., Corteva Horticultural Manager

The Young Grower of the Year Award was another key highlight of the conference, recognising the next generation of industry leaders. “Congratulations to Luca Farmer from The Farmer Group, who was named this year’s winner,” Koch said. “His work in potato and onion production—particularly his focus on improving soil health—is a great example of forward-thinking, sustainable agriculture in action. A very deserving winner and a strong reflection of where the industry is heading.”

Corteva’s ongoing partnership with AUSVEG and the broader horticulture sector remains central to its mission. “Our relationship with horticulture is built on a shared goal,” Koch explained, “helping growers overcome challenges from pests, disease and nutrition while improving productivity in a sustainable way. Through innovation, collaboration and a strong on-ground presence, we’re committed to supporting the industry now and into the future.”

Summing up the event, Koch described Hort Connections 2026 as a resounding success. “It was a great few days—great people, great conversations and plenty of momentum as we continue working alongside growers to drive the industry forward.”
