11A44 contains a single strain of a very effective strain of Lactobacillus buchneri which is proprietary to Pioneer. This strain is designed to significantly reduce heating across a wide range of high dry‑matter silages.
Whether spoilage risk comes from long chop length, warm weather, slow feed‑out, or low compaction, 11A44 effectively limits aerobic spoilage and typically reaches its full stabilising effect within six weeks.
11A44 is also available in a Rapid React© formulation. 11A44 Rapid React includes a second proprietary Pioneer strain of Lactobacillus buchneri which works faster, and ensures the positive impact on aerobic stability is achieved in just 1 week.
11A44 is designed to:
- Reduce dry matter losses by 8% over untreated controls
- Reduce yeasts and moulds to just 0.1% of untreated control silages
- Maintain aerobic stability in maize and cereal wholecrop silage for longer vs treated with 5 litres of propionic acid
11A44 offers a biological solution without the health risk associated with applying acids and acid salts.
The data shows that high dry matter grass silage treated with Pioneer® 11A44 had significantly greater aerobic stability—around 160 hours—compared to propionic acid treatment (140 hours) and the untreated control (60 hours), highlighting 11A44’s superior ability to resist spoilage.
