Meet Katherine Ing: Corteva UK & Ireland Commercial Intern
At Corteva, we are fortunate to have interns like Kitty, who bring fresh perspectives and fully engage in our mission to support farmers. Kitty joined our Commercial team in November 2025 for an 11-month placement, and we're excited to share her journey and insights from his time with us!
Let’s start with you - can you tell us a little about your background and what led you to this internship?
I am currently studying Environmental Land Management at Harper Adams University and, as part of my degree, I am undertaking a placement year. Having grown up around a range of livestock and gained experience across various agricultural sectors, I have a strong passion for farming from a young age.
I have a strong interest in the environment and its relationship with agriculture, particularly in how productive farming and sustainable land management can work together. When searching for a placement, I wanted a role that would provide exposure to different aspects of a business and demonstrate how companies within the sector can support and benefit British agriculture. This internship caught my attention because it offers insight into the wider agricultural industry while allowing me to develop my knowledge of farming, environmental stewardship, and crop management.
What has stood out to you about the culture or environment at Corteva?
Corteva has a friendly and supportive working environment, making it an enjoyable place to work. Throughout my placement, I have gained a valuable understanding of how a global company operates, from product development through to supporting customers. It has been particularly interesting to see how teams from different countries work together to achieve shared goals and bring new innovations to the agricultural sector.
How has this internship shaped your career goals or helped clarify your next steps?
Over the last 11 months, I have had many opportunities to develop both my knowledge and practical skillset. One of the highlights of my placement was studying for the BASIS Certificate in Crop Protection for Forage crops and Grassland. This strengthened my understanding of crop protection principles and the role agronomy plays in improving farm productivity, profitability, and environmental sustainability.
This placement has also been an eye-opening experience in demonstrating the wide range of career opportunities available within the agricultural industry. Through my involvement in trials, product development, and technical discussions, I have developed a greater interest in agronomy and the application of research to provide practical solutions to the challenges faced by farmers.
What advice would you give to someone considering a career in the agricultural sector?
My biggest piece of advice would be to get involved, gain as much experience as possible, and be willing to say yes to new opportunities. Agriculture is an incredibly diverse industry with a wide range of career paths, and every experience offers the chance to learn something new. The more people you meet, places you visit, and experiences you gain, the better understanding you will develop of the industry and the opportunities available within it.
Outside of work, where are we most likely to find you or what activities do you enjoy?
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with horses, milking, and taking part in Young Farmers. I also enjoy coaching for The Pony Club and I am excited to head back to Harper Adams University for my final year.
