Volunteer tame oat control
Volunteer oats are extremely competitive in winter wheat and should be controlled early.
Volunteer oats can be more difficult to manage than wild oats and there’s a limited choice of products available that effectively control them.
If an oat crop was grown last season, then check fields in autumn for oat volunteers. If they are present, then deal with them early to reduce any impact on yield.
Control of oats with Broadway® Star
Irrespective of variety (winter/spring) or type (wild or volunteers) control with all ALS inhibitor chemistry control declines beyond GS30.
Optimum timing for control is prior to tillering, mid-tillering at latest.
Broadway Star + adjuvant will control wild oats up to GS31.
A Corteva Agriscience trial from 2021/22 showed that autumn was the optimum timing for using Broadway Star + adjuvant to control the following tame oat varieties - Fusion, Elyann, Isabel, Balado, Mascani, Lineout, Southwark, Canyon and Dalguise.
In the same trial, spring applications resulted in lower control due to sub-optimal weather conditions at the time of application, however, spring applications of Broadway Star still gave acceptable levels of control of Fusion, Elyann and Isabel volunteer oats.
