West Kauai Soil & Water Conservation District recognized Corteva Agriscience as the 2023 Water Conservationist of the Year for its continued conservation efforts ensuring resiliency within agricultural operations as well and being good stewards to the land. In recent years, Corteva Hawai‘i focused on several practices including maintaining field buffers, planting cover crop into their crop rotation, maintaining vegetative barriers, and installing grassed waterways. Our agronomy team plans and prepares fields needed for that season, reducing unvegetated areas that can contribute to erosion. The team has also planted windbreaks and other plantings that can assist with water use efficiency and plant health. These practices have been proven effective to greatly reduce erosion, especially as damage from heavy rain has been less than expected. Corteva Hawai‘i is constantly working toward incorporating conservation technologies to minimize their environmental impacts. The team at Corteva Hawai‘i is grateful for the West Kauai SWCD’s collaboration and recognition of our efforts and our commitment to enabling more sustainable outcomes for the future.
