Illinois Retailer Shares How Resicore® REV Herbicide Helps Customers Stay Ahead of Resistant Weeds

Weed resistance has become the bane of existence for countless farmers, researchers and production agriculture in general since it was first documented in the U.S. in the 1950s.

“Weed pressure has gotten much worse in the past five to 10 years, especially because of weeds that have become tolerant to a lot of our current chemistries,” says Darian Norville, crop specialist, Central Commodity FS, Morrisonville, Illinois. “I help my farmer customers design weed control programs that usually include a good up front pre- and post-herbicide with excellent residual activity. When we do that on crops across the entire farming operation, weed control gets a little easier each year.”

Farmers remain challenged with controlling several resistant grasses and broadleaf weeds. Weed plants that are better at putting on seeds and handling stress in various environments are also more likely to develop resistance.

Using products with multiple modes of action has become a staple recommendation for optimum weed control and to help extend the life of currently viable chemistries. Norville appreciates Resicore® REV herbicide because it contains three effective modes of action and offers additional benefits to his customers.

“That’s so important and it makes my recommendations a lot easier,” Norville says. “Since we have the [Resicore] REV piece now encapsulated, I sleep a little better at night knowing it offers the protection of the encapsulation waiting on that rainfall. It also provides that important crop safety aspect, especially when it’s hot and dry. I don’t want to put any more stress on the crop than what Mother Nature may already do.”

What else does Resicore® REV herbicide offer your customers?

  1. Advanced premix of three proven active ingredients and modes of action: clopyralid, mesotrione and encapsulated acetochlor
  2. Wide application window on corn up to 24 inches tall
  3. Premier control of more than 75 of the toughest broadleaf and grass weeds
  4. Great fit for pre- and postemergence applications
  5. Tank-mix capability with products such as atrazine, glyphosate and other key corn herbicides
  6. Tank-mix compatibility with nutrients, including urea ammonium nitrate (UAN) and ammonium thiosulfate (ATS)

In 2024, Norville put Resicore REV herbicide to the test when he applied it on some of his customers’ acres that were traditionally minimum till or no-till that had developing weed pressure.

“We did a two-pass program with Keystone® NXT herbicide as a preemerge and then came back between 21 to 30 days with Resicore REV on the second pass,” Norville says. “We were targeting waterhemp and a few other hard-to-control broadleaf weeds. We were very satisfied with the results.”
