Learn how to talk about fats with your family. In this video, mom, scientist and science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fanatic Dr. Magan Lewis shows you how to educate your children on why we shouldn’t fear fats. She provides expert insights on the different types of fat found in our food, where you can find each type of fat and how they impact our bodies.

Magan will show you some fun activities you can do with your kids to help them learn about serving sizes and finding fats. She demonstrates a kid-friendly way to read about fats on a label and understand the amount and type of fat in their favorite snacks. To join Magan in these activities, you need the following:

  • A fat that’s solid at room temperature, such as butter, cheese or meat
  • A fried snack food, such as chips or crackers
  • A cooking oil that’s liquid at room temperature, such as olive oil or vegetable oil
  • A nutrient-dense food, such as an avocado or peanuts
  • A kitchen scale
