Sustaining Superior Weed Control
A strong weed control program for corn and soybeans starts with a clean field and builds layered protection that lasts through harvest. By combining tillage or burndown, a dependable preemergence residual and timely postemergence passes, farmers can stay ahead of tough, yield-robbing weeds all season long. Each step in the program reinforces the last, reducing escapes, protecting yield potential and helping manage herbicide resistance across acres. Together, these practices create a simple, season-long framework that keeps rows cleaner, preserves flexibility and supports more consistent performance year after year.
The 2026 Enlist Product Use Guide outlines a season-long weed control approach for Enlist E3® soybeans and Enlist® corn with PowerCore® Enlist® corn centered on Enlist® herbicides and key residual partners. The following is a look at the overall practices that help make up a strong program.
1. Start clean
A clean start sets the tone for the entire growing season. Whether it’s tillage or burndown, the goal is the same: Eliminate early weed competition so the crop can establish with less competition and stress. Clean tillage helps reset the field by removing winter annuals and breaking up residue, while a timely burndown takes out emerged weeds before planting and keeps the seedbed weed-free during those critical early weeks. Starting clean gives corn and soybeans the space, light and nutrients they need to hit the ground running and deliver strong early-season vigor. For burndown, choices include Enlist Duo® and Enlist One® herbicides for corn and soybeans, Basis® Blend herbicide for corn or Elevore® herbicide for soybeans. Any of these can be effective in readying fields for planting.
2. Apply a preemergence soil residual herbicide
Using a strong preemergence residual herbicide is one of the smartest ways to stay ahead of early-season weed pressure. One of several Corteva Agriscience preemergence herbicides can stop weeds before they ever emerge, reducing competition during the crop’s most vulnerable stages. A solid pre-foundation also lightens the load on post applications, improves overall control and helps slow the spread of herbicide resistance. Starting the season with a dependable soil residual sets the whole program up for cleaner rows and more consistent performance.
Key practices to remember:

3. Tank-mix and apply a postemergence soil residual herbicide with an Enlist® herbicide
Postemergence residual herbicides add a crucial layer of protection after the crop is up and growing. By delivering both knockdown of emerged weeds and extended residual activity, they help keep fields clean through the heart of the season when weed competition can stealthily chip away at yield. These products reinforce your preemergence application foundation, stretching control further into the summer and reducing the number of late-emerging escapes that are harder to manage. A strong post residual keeps weed pressure low, preserves flexibility and supports a more consistent, season-long weed management program.
Approved glyphosate and glufosinate can also be incorporated into the program approach for added control. For Enlist® corn only, Assure® II herbicide can be incorporated as well.3
Enlist® herbicides control tough and herbicide-resistant weeds, including, but not limited to:
- Lambsquarters
- Marestail4
- Morningglory
- Palmer amaranth4
- Ragweed, common, giant
- Velvetleaf
- Waterhemp

Key items to remember:
- Enlist® herbicides can be used in burndown, preemergence and postemergence passes on crops with the Enlist® trait.
- Enlist herbicides are rainfast within four hours.
- Up to three applications may be made per season (2 pt/A per application for Enlist One® herbicide or 4.75 pt/A per application for Enlist Duo® herbicide, where consistent with runoff management practices):
- One application at burndown or preemergence
- Up to two applications postemergence, at least 12 days apart
- Always include a true broad-spectrum soil residual herbicide in your weed management plan.5
- Consider using a layered residual, such as a Group 15 herbicide (e.g., acetochlor, S-metachlor, pyraxasulfone), in your post passes for longer-lasting weed control.
The path to cleaner fields and long-term success starts with a plan. The Enlist® weed control system gives farmers the tools to make it happen, but every step matters. A program approach can help improve weed control, reduce weed competition during key stages of crop growth and help manage herbicide resistance.
