KYIV, Ukraine, Feb. 14, 2019 — Corteva Agriscience™, Agriculture Division of DowDuPont, is taking part in initiative to encourage young people to work in the agriculture sector. Corteva Agriscience’s involvement in the Ukrainian Best Young Agronomist 2019 competition reflects the priority to develop future generations – including farmers – that will provide a growing global population with safe and nutritious food.
Corteva Agriscience representatives will sit on the expert committee, prepare tasks and assess participants’ knowledge as part of the program. Contestants will also be invited to join Corteva Agriscience field activities and take on the expertise of professionals with wide-ranging international experience.
Now in its sixth year, the Best Young Agronomist competition, founded by the Agroexpert magazine, aims to support talented young people working in agriculture in Ukraine. More than 200 agronomists from across the country enter to demonstrate their abilities and compete to learn best practices and benefit from the unique experience of the program partners. Winners are chosen based on their responses to theoretical questions and performance in practical tasks.
Based on the results of the anonymous evaluation, the expert commission will identify four winners in the following categories: Breeding and Planting; Agrochemistry and Soil Science; Plant Protection; Fruit Growing.
“We strive to direct our efforts to engage young people in the industry to preserve agriculture as a source of livelihoods,” says Anna Babich, Corporate Communications Manager, Central & Eastern Europe for Corteva Agriscience. “We are participating in initiatives that support our concept of New Faces in Agriculture and encourage young people to study, work and develop in the field of agribusiness. The Best Young Agronomist Competition is gaining popularity from year to year and demonstrates the speed with which young people want to move and make changes, but they also need the help of specialists with a lot of experience and knowledge of international practices.”
"Young agronomists who have just started their professional career need special support to develop their competences," comments Iryna Korchagina, Leader of the Best Young Agronomy Competition. “Thanks to our competition young specialists can confirm their knowledge and gain confidence for further work in agriculture. Confirmation of the competition importance is not only an annual increase in the number of participants, but also support of the worldwide recognized producer of the high-quality seeds and crop protection products - Corteva Agriscience. The versatility and multifunctional solutions proposed by this company corresponds with the thematic directions of the competition in the best way."
Participants can enter the competition via the website by clicking here until May 31, 2019. The winners will be announced at the end of October 2019.
