Also known as hogwort, goatweed or dogweed, woolly croton is a warm- season annual that is toxic to livestock, – including cattle, – and can be highly invasive if left unmanaged.

Species specifics: Silverleaf nightshade

Native to the Southwest U.S. and Mexico, silverleaf nightshade is considered a noxious weed in many states. It can be identified by its silver-colored leaves and small violet, light blue or white flowers. This weed is toxic to cattle and horses.

Species specifics: Biennial thistles

Bull, musk and plumeless thistles are aggressive opportunists identified by their many purple flowers. Successful management depends on applying a herbicide prior to flowering in the spring.

A common culprit of pink eye in cattle, western ragweed not only irritates herds but also creates challenges for ranchers managing infestations. Early identification and management prior to flowering are key.
